Jules Michelet (August, 21, 1798 - February, 9, 1874) - a very famous and influential French historian. He was professor of history in College Rollin, an employee at the Record Office, dean of history at the College de France. He was an ardent politician and took an active part in discussions around all the main political problems of his time, including Revolution of 1848, account of which he put down in his "History of the French Revolution". His chief work and masterpiece is considered to be his 19-volume "History of France" (it took about 30 years to finish it and in 1867 the work was completed).
